|[back] Message from the Incoming President Sara Lew - 30th Nov 2006|
As I take on the position of President from my predecessor, Mr. Chee Liew Seong, I am aware of the responsibilities that lie ahead are much heavier than those that I have had when I was the President in 2000-2002. Memberships have grown since then and we have a place to call our own, the Parkinson’s Club, which houses our Secretariat, Recreation and Rehabilitation Center. However, I have the comfort of knowing that I have a good team behind me, who are committed towards the goals and objectives of the association. Many of the committee members come with years of experience behind them that will be definitely of great help to the association.
As I told my team, they are here not for me. I am but just the leader of the pack. Instead, we are here for the association. We are also here neither for glory nor for fame. We are all volunteers who come together for a good reason, that is, to help others. Hence, it is very important that we work as a team with all our members behind us
Through the years many things have changed. I am older and wiser. I have lost many friends who had passed on and I have gained many more through new memberships. A decade with the association is a long time and I am actually growing old with the association. Yet, there are two things that keep me going in the association. First, it is the many friends that I have found within the association. Secondly, it is the passion to help people with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers in whatever way that I know how. People who are like my father. People who are like me. People who could be like us one day.
Lastly, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the outgoing President, Mr. Chee Liew Seong and his team, for their hard work and dedication towards the association during their tenure. My appreciation also goes out to all other individuals and organizations that have given their help towards the association, be it in deed or in kind.
