Message from the President
How time flies and MPDA is already 13 years old today. We have had a Hi-Tea celebration at the Restaurant Kampung Ku, Subang Lake View Club on the 29th December 2007 to commemorate the occasion. It was a joyous occasion which was well attended by more than 100 participants comprising members, their family members, friends and supporters.
Thirteen years is indeed a significant and respectable milestone for any organization - both a time for looking back at what have been achieved and a time for facing the new challenges that lie ahead of us. The establishment of the Parkinson Center in November 2005 is one of the most important milestones in our association. It is the convergent point for all our members for its administrative and social needs. Nevertheless, it is still our ardent wish that one day we will own a premises large enough to serve our needs. In the meantime, we have to content with what we have got.
I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the role played by our founder of the association , Mr. Lloyd Tan who sadly passed away on 28th March 2007. He is missed by us all. The late Mr. Lloyd Tan is remembered with deep appreciation, admiration, respect and affection.
So thank you to our predecessors who had helped to set up and kept MPDA going 13 years ago and to all those who kept it going in the past 13 years. Thank you also to all the private individuals, private and corporate organizations and NGOs who have lent a helping hand towards our association whether in kind or in deed or both to make it to what it is today. I would also like to take this opportunity to especially thank all my committee members (2006-2008) for their unwavering support, hard work and dedication. Special thanks also go to our Berita Parkinson editor, Mr. Chee Liew Seong and his assistant Ms. Chew Bee Peng.
But we can never sit down and say the work is done. We must always look at how we can do things better for people with Parkinson's and their caregivers. This is our work. This is where you can also lend us a helping hand. We need more volunteers in our association. We need people to help organize events and function. We need people to take part in home visits. Do you have a talent or skill that you might like to teach our members? How about sharing with us some of your experiences as a Parkinsonís patient, caregiver or supporter? Perhaps you can write to us so that we can share it with the others through our quarterly Berita Parkinson. Lend us a hand even if it is an occasional helping hand.
Wishing you a Happy and Blessed 2008!
